What does CC mean in regards to email?

Does it mean to add additional email to an email you want to send other then the "to" line? I always just put a comma or a semicolon in the "to" field if I wanted to add more then just one. Am I on the right track here?

Thanks,
Stu

I believe it stands for carbon copy, but I could be wrong.

It's usually used when you want someone else to be aware of the email, but they are not a direct recipient.

carbon copy, it is from the ancient times of "typewriters" (youngins can google that to find out about that ancient device) when you might use "carbon paper" to make more than one copy of a letter, using the CC: let the people know that other copies of the document were created when the original was typed out

It's generally used to include people in a conversation who may not be directly involved. Sort of like a "Hey, you should be aware about what we're discussing here." TO: recipients are usually directly involved in the conversation.

In business, CC is frequently used to add managers/supervisors into a conversation. It can be a useful strategy for "pushing things along" when people are uncooperative or slow.

BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) serves a similar purpose, except the recipients are unaware that the person is being copied.

Bwahaha. Ahh yes...I both love and hate the old "CC the manager" card.
