What does Booktype DVD mean?

Just as the title states.

What does booktype dvd rom mean? Its a option that is always checked in Nero but I have no idea what it means. And I have asked everywhere (Even here a few months ago), looked everywhere, and read everywhere but cant find a answer to this simple question.

Thanks for any advice.

The booktype basically tells whatever drive you're putting the disc in (whether it be a PC DVD drive, or a DVD player, or whatever) what media the disc is. Whether its DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-ROM, etc... So, by changing the booktype, you're basically trying to trick the device into thinking its a DVD-ROM rather than a DVD-RW or whatever, which can increase compatibility with some players (some refuse to play DVD-RW discs for example, but if it thinks its a DVD-ROM, it will play it).

So, unless I'm mistaken, that's basically what it's doing.

Ahh ok. Thank you friend.

One more question if I could. Considering what you are stating then book type should only be used if your using a -RW or +R or such. Not if your using a DVD-R?

Reason I ask is I do have a old RCA DVD Player (Got them about a year after DVD came out) and it will not play any dvds I make, be it +R, -R, or -RW. Even if I have booktype checked. So I guess what I am saying is Booktype does not really make any difference for a regular DVD-R. Is that correct?

And thank you for the reply. 🙂
