I am looking into buying a 9700 NP or a 9700 Pro. I am leaning towards a Sapphire, but I am curious what the "Atlantis" means. Is this a term that only Sapphire uses?

Thanks for your time.

Its just what they call their product line.... like Creative Labs use Graphics/3D Blaster.... or Hercules use the 'Prophet' brand.

ATI has nothing to do with Atlantis, its a Sapphire brand name thing.

One entry found for Atlantis.

Main Entry: At·lan·tis
Pronunciation: &t-'lan-t&s, at-
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek, from Atlas
: a fabled island in the Atlantic that according to legend sank beneath the sea

:)

Always has to be one in the room right? LOL

Thanks y'all for the replies. Some of the retailers were saying "ATI Atlantis" and it was confusing.

I really doubt the performance of passive cooling since they don't have hardware monitoring either. YOu just don't know what kinda temperature the GPU is running at ;x

You are all wrong.
Have you seen that episode of the Simpsons where Homer sings his "Under the Sea" song after suggesting the family will live in the ocean? He's talking about moving to the fabled underwater city of Atlantis, where Sapphire builds the Atlantis series of cards. The name "Sapphire" is for the deep blue colr of the ocean where Atlantis lies. The cards are built by Mer-Men, in factories powered by whales and hydroelectric generators.
Now you know.
