What does an OSX serial number look like?

I found an OSX Tiger 10.4 set at a second hand store I picked up for $3.
Do these have a regular serial like windows? It came in the original box with all the books but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Wait, wait. We're nice here. Apple doesn't user Serial Numbers for their operating systems. Technically you can install it on as many computers as you want, but the actual license is limited to uno (one) unless you have a Family Pack. But it's just a written license, not something you actually have to register or type in.

Yup! Just make sure it's a "general" disc; there are machine-specific discs too. The master disc (the one they sell separately) includes drivers for all of the machines, but each machine comes with a machine-specific disc that has the drivers specifically for that machine. I don't know why; maybe it makes the install faster or something. But like if you have a MacBook Tiger CD, it will only work on a MacBook. If you have the general disc, it works on anything. It'll say on the disc if it's device-specific.

First off, Tiger shouldn't be worth $100 anymore. You'd have to check eBay for pricing but a lot of people stick to or swear by Tiger.

Secondly, it's a bit more complicated than that. All retail Tiger desktop discs are PPC only. Mac restore discs are machine-specific as Kaido said. All Intel Macs were sold with (at least) Tiger so it was never necessary for Apple to release a Tiger Universal disc set for retail sale. I believe the final retail version of Tiger Server (10.4.7?) was Universal.

Well....I just put up all the information on the disk on ebay with a buy it now price of $100 and someone bought it within an hour.
