I have never argued I have a perfect command of my native language. Very few could ever come close to arguing such a statement with any weight. So you have an amazing grasp of the language. Good for you.

Most native speakers cannot perfectly describe every part of their language, including its function, proper usage, and how it relays a message compared to other similar parts.
Yet they can at least understand what how they work and what they mean, even if they can't relay the specifics.

As far as I am aware the first recipe for "modern" ice cream is attributed to "Mrs. Mary Eales's Receipts" in London 1718. So that would make it English too...

The precursor dates back to the Persians/Romans...
