What does a racoon need a rug for?

They suck as a pet. y friend has one, and it jumps onto your head when you walk past the fridge. Can't get it declawed either, it's considered animal cruelty...

I know it's happened... but it's not like there is a cottage industry around the idea... fenix foxes, alpacas, parrots, ferrets (weasels), skunks and the like. They're smart, they're cute, they have hands... why no raccoon groups?

that's an idea. If I can find a place where I can pick up a baby raccoon, I'll give it a whirl. There has got to be SOME kind of information out their on the web for raising a raccoon. I honestly have always loved the little guys, it's just the little problem of being prone to rabies and being thieves at camp grounds that has caused any dislike of them.
I just love watching animals use their hands, it's kind of fascinating. Especially when they are smart like raccoons.

I read up on it once. Basically, racoons grow up really, really badly. Even when trained from infanthood, they still get a tendency to bite, defecate randomly and freak out at strangers in adulthood.

from what i understand cats and dogs were bred from long ago to live with humans, so it has something to do with genetics. i'm sure that can happen with racoons, but it would take a long time.

I want a pet Racoon and a pet Monkey too. I don't care if they both made horrible pets it would be such fun to watch them. Animal Planet had a special on Racoons, showed a bunch of different people with big problems with them and how they tried (and mostly failed) to get rid of them. Really crazy the amount of damage they caused.
