Tiesto isint the best person to judge what a DJ is supposed to do.....he is a big showboat at times, and doesnt really do much (while his music is still good). A good live DJ should not have a set planned out beforehand, but have a large ammount of music with him, and play stuff based on what the crowd likes and reacts well to. You gotta keep the crowd pumped and not let the set die

A good DJ always gets on the PA and yells:

"Now everybody screeeeeaaaaaaam"
"Throw your hands in the air, and wave em like you just don't care"
"When I say 'HEY', you say 'HO'"

I just wish DJs in general would shut the hell up and play more music.

That's just me, and I'm apparently in the minority.

Just watched the video, the music is great, but won't the people get bored? There's no dancing or 'performance' ... yet there's a crap load of people there.

A good DJ is suppose to take a least one hot girl home at the end of each time they he plays, or at least that's what my best friend does. Damn him.

I'm a DJ, but I spin deep house and funky disco house, not trance. I suppose it is reasonable to expect a trance DJ to showboat a little bit -- especially at a huge party like that one -- but it doesn't really seem to fit with the genre of music that I spin. Granted, I used to spin only at house parties and local bars, but still I just never thought it would fit well with my music. And that's really the point: it should be about the music, not the show, IMO. When I'm at parties like the one featured in the videos, I'm listening to the music and dancing, not watching the DJ. I could care less what he does as long as he plays good music.

This "concert" DJing thing escapes me. I was really pissed when I had a chance to see Grand Master Flash and he stood on stage for ninety minutes just putting records on turntables.

Considering he is the self-styled (and legendary, I dare say) "First to use the turntable as an instrument" I'm sure he was mixing, but let's face it, to the casual observer it makes no difference.

He's standing there. The audience is standing there. We're all standing there on a grass field in the blazing sun while he plays records. And talks a little in between sets.

I know he was best known as a "DJ" in the Furious Five, but since I cannot imagine someone going to a "concert" to "spin" I assumed that he would actually rapping in addition to spinning. I was pysched to see a hip hop legend...but all he did was spin.

DJs are for dance parties, not concerts. I'm glad it was a free event.

raves are different, people are doing their own thing, but in the vid. everyone was just facing the DJ and just jumping up and down, versus dancing with each other.
