Have to write on final stupid paper tonight but the prof. decided to ask for a "critical introduction" essay about a novel. Do you think a "critical introduction" essay should give away plot and/or assume any prior knowledge of the book being discussed.

i've never heard of a critical introduction.

maybe you just need to provide a lot of background. google isn't helping me here.
