What does a background check consist of?

Pretty much. THey will also check personal and work references. Get ready to pee in the cup, too.

Federal background checks are more in depth, especially if security clearance is involved.

My Bar background check was extensive, and it took forever, as I recall.

I got a question. May sound stupid but can they find out about a underage drinking charge I had in Junior High? And do they care about things like that?

It will probably still be there, unless your record is sealed. Depends on the state.

Since it is not a crime involving moral turpitude (immorality, dishonesty), no one should really care.

Just answer the question fully. It is worse to not disclose something like that, because it makes you look like you are hiding something.

🙂

Background = criminal (state and federal) and military
Credit check = credit check.
Most will do both with varying degrees of the first ie. just state.

Work history, Education, Criminal, maybe credit, maybe driving. They shouldn't be looking that far back (7 years) usually, and your juvenile record is probably sealed.

They talked to my second grade teacher. I cannot say who they is.

Edit: But you are right about companies in general

How do they check your work history? Is it through your credit report or is there another agency that keeps track of all your jobs?

How about IRS?

Do most employers go through the IRS to find out which jobs you've held?

What kind of background check is it? SSBI?

I think he's talking about a civilian job check done by a private company, not government security clearances. BIG difference. 🙂
