I ask this question because im looking to buy the sony GDM-F520. (what's the clone of this monitor btw? Sony's expensive) I am worried about performance. Usually people would run a 21" on 1600x1200 but the framerates go down considerably. Will games and stuff still look good at 1024x768 on a 21"? Will the images and objects just simply look bigger? Will it look akward? Thanks in advance.

Take a 17 inch monitor.

Run a game in 640 by 480.

Its just BIGGER.

Except 1024 on a 21 inch will be much crisper than 640*480

I have the "little brother/sister" (cheaper) CPD-G520 and run games at 1024X768. No worries--it looks great. I would, DEFINATELY, not run resolutions lower than that though.

EDIT: Pretty sure there are no clones for the "higher-end" Sony monitors (that includes yours).

kinda looks like it does on a 17" but 4" bigger and kinda looks like it does on a 19" but uh 2" bigger....so like a 17" would like look 2" bigger then a 15" and a 19" would look 4" bigger then a 15"....so its kinda like the differance between a 15" and a 19"...yeah kinda like that

For 2D on my 21" I run at 1152x864. 1280x1024 is too small for my tired old eyes, and I tend to sit further away from the monitor than most folks.

For 3D games, I run most at 1280x1024 except TFC and CS, which I run at 1024x768. The in-game chat text is too small at 1280x1024 for me to read easily. (anyone know how to adjust that?)

I have a G500 with a Elsa GeForce 3, I run my resoltion at 1600 x 1200 32Bit for normal daily use and surfing the net, I use 1280 x 1024 32Bit for playing games for a little better frame rates. 1024 x 768 on a 21" monitor looks like 800 x 600 on a 19" to me, a little too big of icons and graphics for my liking.
