My mom's a doctor and dad's a chemist (at least by degree; he's done so much physics, it's hard to know what to call him).

My parents are retired, and they don't do much except watch baseball and collect junk. A year ago or so I introduced my mom to the internet, and now she's permanently stuck in that phase where she forwards emailed crap.

My father is Owner/Co-President of his own trucking a rigging (machinery moving) company created by my grandfather. He works ~16-20 hours a day, 6 days a week. My mother works the books for my father's company. We move pretty much any kind of machine imaginable, large and small. If you need anything done, inquire within, and I can ask him :D.

My father owns one of the Top 500 Engineering firms in the nation, Lee Company. They're based in Nashville, TN; Birmingham, Alabama; and Orlando, Florida. My mom was a lawyer, but she retired two years ago. They would both rather not talk to me right now, as I told my father I would not take over the family business, and wanted to teach. So, all of his wealth has now been diverted to my sister. I am the epitome of happiness is greater than money. I hope I'm right.

It's cool to call me a moron. Everyone who knows me calls me a moron, and everyone I tell this story thinks I'm a moron. Maybe I am, but I really started to dislike engineering, so I quit to become a teacher, something that has always made me happy. Who knows, maybe there's a secret trust fund in my name, but I doubt it.

Having trouble understanding the concept of retired people? Or of old people who are not quite computer literate communicating with friends over email?

My parents are doing what all of our parents will be doing eventually, nothing.

They just lay there rotting away and not caring about it. What is most disconcerting is that they don't seem to care.

Fortunately, their bills are paid and they incur no debts. They always took care of themselves financially.

I will join them some day, as will you join your parents.

I hope you appreciated them while they were alive.

I think he's having trouble understanding the concept of one person "laughing his ass off" and other person doing the same....
