What do you want to see in a new Nexus 7?

I quite literally want a big Nexus 4.

Take the current 7, enlarge the screen slightly into the bezel, make it a little lighter and give it a similar (relative) pixel density and performance of the N4. Eliminate some of the slightly suspect build quality issues (screen lift, digitiser etc) and sell it for the same price and I'll be happy. If you can make it more droppable while we're at it, great.

I hope the Nexus 7's successor will be/have:

• 7"~8" screen. If 8", make the bezels disappear so that the physical size of device is no wider than current Nexus 7. It's important because that's the limit of my pockets' widths!
• Thin, thin, thin. iPad mini is 7.2 mm thin. Me likey. Nexus 7 is 10 mm. Make it thin like iPad mini. The thinner the better
• Light, light, light. iPad mini is 310 gram. Nexus 7, 340 gram. Shoot for 250 gram or less.
• No convex back. it's hideous.
• Glass screen that is resilient to smudges and scratches. It's tiring to wipe clean finger prints.
• Proper palm rejection so that handwriting can be a reality.
• Higher PPI. 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 would be good enough. (but I won't complain for 2560x1600)
• Unibody (or as close to it) construction.
• Wireless charging that are compatible with other Nexus devices.
• Keep micro-USB for compatibility. Don't think about new proprietary cables.
• Same or better battery life.
• etc.

I will pay more than $200 for it. Just make it work, Google/ASUS/Samsung/Whatever.

Proper palm/thumb rejection will allow thin or non-existent bezels on the sides.

I think this would be great, too. It's also within the realm of possibility from the rumor I've read that the next Nexus 7 will utilize Snapdragon S4 Pro. Stretch Nexus 4 and make it thinner, and you get an improved Nexus 7. I like the idea. Making it waterproof would be a great bonus.

For the people pining for a smaller bezel, the current bezel size is nearly perfect for comfortably holding and gripping the tablet.

Rumors strongly point to a 1080p display though, so thats covered. It'll likely get an S4 Pro or Snap600 CPU too.

It most definitely won't have a SDXC slot or extra outputs. As much as I'd like to see a slot and miniHDMI on it.

Also, one thing they really need to fix - proper Bluetooth functionality. It's my understanding that Nexus 7 can't be used with a Bluetooth mics (i.e. no audio-in via Bluetooth, only audio-out). I don't know how this was not caught by reviews.

And reasonable speakers by modern standard. Nexus 7's speakers are pitiful.

Compared to the Kindle Fire HD, the speaker is absolutely dreadful. I often couldn't even watch YouTube of other videos without getting my headphones out because the mono speaker was too weak. The Kindle Fire HD has great speakers, stereo and loud, great for listening to content.


Edit: I misread your last word as "plentiful" instead of "pitiful" for some reason. So when I first replied, I thought you were crazy. I see my error now.

Better build quality. I bought 3 and two are already dead within 2 months of use. One fell from my carseat to the floorboard and broke. I refuse to buy anymore Asus products, and I would recommend avoiding Staples too as they are refusing to honor the replacement contract the store manager sold me for them as well.

Yeah, whoops, I read your first line and thought you were talking about the Nexus 4.

Nexus 7 is pretty damn good, better stereo speakers and usual technology upgrades as time goes on for the CPU, graphics, screen, and battery.
