At home, RH9 and fedora core1 for server duty(FTP, web, DNS, and MySQL)

At work, RH Enterprise WS and we use it every day to process neuroimaging datasets that we collect from multiple General Electric 3 Tesla MRI scanners.

Thank God for linux, matlab, perl, and statistical parametric mapping.

The only time we reboot these servers is when we're forced...which means the block lost power, UPS battery drained, backup generator died 😛 😉

For desktop...not too much, maybe for testing purposes, that's all.

Tell me the last time your Windows Server 2000 was up for more than 3 years... 😀 I know our exchange goes down just about everytime we do backup! d@mn veritas! 😉

Tell them to take a look at Powerquest's (now Symantec) V2i Protector. We threw everything veritas out the window after betaing it. Hot image backups with 100% availability during the backup. They have a server and workstaiton version. If you don't need incremental backups, get the Small Business edition.

told my boss about it...still waiting for response 😉

btw, if I had my way, we'd be running domino 🙂

I'm still getting into it and run both RH and Mandrake 10, but I'm struggling with setting up the server apps (specifically Apache). I'd love to drop my XP machine and put Mandrake on my desktop, but I don't want to lose the ability to play games on it (I do realize that there are windows emulators, but how good are they when playing games?).

I wish I could get Solaris running on one of my machines at home, but it hates my hardware and dumps itself when I try to install it.

mine is primarily a file server and mythtv computer, I also use it for irc, chat and web browsing

how hard was mythtv to setup, I have an extra pc thinking of setting up with it.

It was actually pretty easy, I'm running Gentoo and all I had to do was just emerge mythtv.

Cool thread here, been messing with Fedora on a desktop machine here lately. I think I have secured bandwidth for a server co-located for free next year also. I want to setup an ftp server and for who knows what and learn as much as possible.

everything but playing games. actually, i don't play games. come to think of it, why should i keep that windows partition?
