Hey guys. I'm looking for a way to mount my case fans in a quiet method. the case is a P180, and I'm looking for a way to mount the fans quietly.

I have seen people use every method possible, including zipties and shoelaces.

any comments on these methods?

I mounted my fans with the included screws in my P180. No difference in noise (at least not in this case).

As Vin said, lots of the fans people buy today are pretty wimpy and don't make much noise to begin with. But a few of us like to use fans that can make our case sides expand and contract like breathing. Those can have some vibes in the higher speed ranges so a bit of isolation can help. I know this much, the rubber pins beat the silicone gasket for isolation - mainly because of the way most use the screws with the gasket and the screws provide a path for the vibes to get to the case. If you isolate the screws too, there is no reason they shouldn't work as well. Most rubber pins leave a bit of a gap around the rim of the fan which may cause a whistle under certain conditions - no gap with a gasket.

And some use double-sided foam mounting tape for both screw substitute and vibe isolation. Works well as long as the glue holds...

hmm... well i'm getting 5 yate loons. 47cfm, 29 dba. OEM nexuses. I probably won't have to worry about vibrations in that right? well this system is going to be very quiet. p180 case, 5 yate loons, a scythe ninja, and maxline III 250gig. gigabyte silent pipe II video card.

Don't mount the fan with anything that can transfer vibrations - string with a knot between the case and the fan works well but looks rubbish. For a more professional approach you can buy those rubber screw replacement things (come with antec sonata case, don't know where else you can get them).

Of course... I totally forgot. My case is the P180... It's already GOT the rubber vibration mounts xD thanks guys. I'll try those other solutions if I run out of the ones that come with the P180.
