What do you use the CNR slot for?

The CNR slot is for sound cards. However, Intel has not made any specifications for the end user so manufacturers ignore it altogether. If I remember correctly though, some nForce boards use it for the onboard sound. Hope this helps you, and if you didn't get teh gist of my post you don't use your CNR slot.

CNR (Communications and Network Riser) cards have at least a modem port on, and an optional LAN channel.

This has been done to remove application and country specific circuitry from the mainboards, and is a popular option in large volume OEM manufacturing - identical barebone systems can be completed, with a last minute upgrade of connectivity options depending on where they go.

While CNR and AMR cards are hardly seen on retail shelves (with the exception of Elitegroup modem cards), many off-the-shelf computers have them inside.
