But it's easier to reach more keys, which you may need for most FPS's. I started on arrow keys when FPS's first started, but since then it's been necessary to use WASD.

if oyu have extra mouse buttons and/or larger hands, then arrow keys give you almost 20 buttons that are usable in addition to movement, and TBH if you need more than 20 buttons, the game is getting stupid (if it's an FPS).
