what do you think?

I have been overdue for some major upgrades for some time now, what do you think about this system (especially for crunching those SETI WUs 😉 ) ?

Gigabyte GA7VT600-L mobo, XP 1900 or 2000, 256-512MB ddr3200...I can't upgrade the hd yet or the vid card, tight budget, i'm not much of a gamer anyway.

With the PC3200 DDR you could get some great overclock and some great Seti times. And for about 30 bucks more you could get a 2500+ Barton which overclocks very well (YMMV...) and really crank out WU's

or if you wanted to save some bucks you won't need the pc3200 if you'll be using the 2100+ (better oc'er than the 1900&2000+'s for seemingly pennies more) for a 2100+ pc 2700 is about all you'll get outa your fsb.

I just set up an nforce 2 box with a 2500+ and two sticks of pc3200 from geil, gets an average of 2:24 on WU's.(sad really...it crunches as much by itself as the other 4 systems I own combined)

I'll second the recommendation on Geil memory. Running it in my rig now. P4-2.4 @ 2880 CAS2. Avg WU time is about 2hr30min. 🙂

Finally got my ASUS A7N8X/ 2600+ / (2)256mg PCI3200 running again tonight...
Same HD, burner, DVD, froppy, vid, ect....
Had to reinstall XP PRO. It wouldn't even boot into Safe Mode.
lab., what do you have your processor FSB set to?
Mine is set to 166, will not boot at 200 FSB setting and 12X mult.

I plan to oc it, first I've gotta be sure I know exactly what im doing.
What cooling setup should be used with this? From what I understand this mobo has no mounting screws for the larger fans and heatsinks so I was thinking of copper deffinetly.
