my parents just got a new cell phone plan (see another thread). they say if i want in i pay the 20.00/month that it takes to add another line. i say we split the cost, so i pay 10, and they pay 10. i'd buy the phone.

my rationale: having a cell phone is good, as they can reach me when they want to. i can reach them when they want to. many a time have i had to borrow a cell to call someone (mainly my parents). if i had a cell, things would be easier for everyone. there are going to be minutes left over on the plan that, as of now, will go wasted. if i get in, then those minutes could well be used.

what do you think?

can you think of any other reasons for myself to have a cell?

sounds fair to me, I'd probably pay 10 bucks if I had kids for him/her to have a cell phone, as long as they promised to always have it with them, not to use more than their allowed minutes, and to not hang up on me when I call or pretend they didn't hear it. ;)

i work 6-8 hours per week lifeguarding at a pool. i just turned 16. i get 7.50/hour for that, but right now i am taking 70-80% of the proceeds earned and paying for my trip to scotland with them (i am paying for it fully by myself). the other 20-30% is set aside for myself for spending and such (gas, food, going out on the weekends, etc)

I pay $50/month for my cell phone bill. Stop being a cheapass and take the deal they're giving you.

I would say explain that to them, show them by you having a phone it benefits them.

If you're going on a trip with your parents and you're paying for it yourself, then I'd say they should foot the bill for the cell phone.

If you're going on a trip without your parents and are paying for it yourself, then I'd say you should foot the bill for the cell phone.

if you cut corners you do. 20 dollars a month without rent, utilities, and groceries isn't hard. You can do it.
