The guy is asking $10,500 for it. Seems like a pretty solid deal to me. I've never owned a truck, anything I should look for specifically during the test drive?

Ask about the gas gauge. GM trucks are famous for their gas gauges being messed up and they can be a pain to fix.

Just asking general opinion, don't care about car-specific things in this thread.

And yeah, gas won't be an issue.

price seems high?? Isn't the SLE only a hybrid? Maybe I am mistaken...4w/d or 2w/d? Long bed, short? Just make sure you KBB it to make sure it's a good deal...

I would low ball him less then what KBB says, as trucks are PRETTY hard to sell, even now with gas going down....yes I suck, but money is money, and the cheaper you can get it for the better, right?

Have it checked out. If it's a good shape mechanically, go for it. It's already broken in for you.

Great deals. I wanted a 4 cylinder, mostly commuting occasionally working truck. Got an 06 Ford Ranger XLT with 40k miles in 11/08 for 7k

Looks like a nice truck man, and a fair price too. I love how you guys down in the south don't have to worry about salt and shit winter time :) Your cars are always in such nice conditions :D

I bought my car used that was 6 years old, with 63,000 km on it, in mint condition and I'm really happy, and I paid more than what you are paying :D But then again resale on Jap cars is higher.

The question I would ask is do you really need a big full size truck with a V8 and extended cab? If you are, for example, a single guy living in an apartment with a cubicle job then the answer is probably no. If you have two kids a house and a landscaping job, probably yes. Don't buy a big heavy full size truck that gets 16MPG if you aren't going to use it.

This was not an expensive truck to begin with. It has the base V8 in it and is 2WD. I'd be surprised if the guy paid more than $20K for it new.

I agree, hold out for a 5.3, and power bucket seats with the console.

They are good trucks, I abuse the crap out of mine and its still holds up.

I bought a 04 Silverado Z71 with the 5.3L V8 and couldn't be happier.

It may sound backwards to you, but the 5.3 will actually result in better gas mileage than the 4.8. The 4.8 is a more rev-happy motor of the LS series... which way more rev happy then gen I and II small blocks.

Hold out for the 5.3L because there are a lot of deals to be had on these trucks. Check the steering and see if when you turn the wheel if you feel binding or vibration. These trucks are notorious for having bad intermediate steering shafts.

I'd also look for a truck with code G80 in the glovebox. If you tow a boat or even get off lose gravel etc... this option will help a lot. It's the eaton auto-locking rear end which is great in a truck application... not so great for racing etc...

Check the climate control system. These trucks have dual-zone climate control and sometimes the actuators go out and one side will blow and one will blow cold or vice versa. It's a common problem, but can be expensive to fix.

Most of the kinks on this gen of Silverados/Sierras were worked out by the 2005 model year, but I'd get the VIN and call a dealer to see what type of warranty work was performed.

You can't go wrong with GM fullsize b/c they will get around the same mileage as most domestic and imports V6s if you keep you foot out of it. I consistently get 19mpg out my 4x4 silverado and think I could get up to 20mpg if I kept my foot out of more.

Sir, your Delaware logic does not apply down in the Lone Star State, I'm afraid. :D

I've been doing some research on how much 5.3s are going for in this area, and it's considerably higher (for me). I won't be pulling anything behind the 4.8 bigger than a flatbed trailer maybe once a year, so I'm not too worried about the torque issues. I just want a comfortable 5 seater with a bed.

This is America, how dare you suggest that he actually evaluate his needs before purchasing a truck. It is our god given right to buy big gas guzzling vehicles we don't need.

I did a quick search of Autotrader and within 50 miles of me there are 79 of these trucks available (2005 Chevy Silverado 1500). I only searched for 2005 model year too. The link above is to a very clean extended cab 4x4 model with 32,000 miles, he's asking $10,000 even. When I searched for 2005-2007 there were over 200 trucks that came up. 2005-2010 gives me over 700 listings to choose from.

It is definitely a buyers market for trucks and fullsize SUVs right now.
