I need to update my graphics very soon and just can't decide what to go for along the 8800 route, my current PC spec is:

Asus Striker Extreme Mobo
Intel Quad Q6600 @ 3GHz
Crutial Ballsitix DDR2 1066MHz
2 x BFG 7900GTX graphics cards in SLi

Machine runs damm quick and I can play most things in 1920x1200 maxed out like HL2 and Counterstrike etc but now ive started playing Crysis I can only run the 7900's in 1280x1024 with medium settings which looks pant on my 24" due to native res being 1920x1200.

Anyway, been looking at reviews on various GT, GTS and GTX 8800's and for now want a single powerful 8800 card with the provision on adding another one later on.

What do you think of this? I am a fan of BFG cards having used them for years now so would like to stick to them really, but im open to suggestions, I like this one because its clocked quite high already: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/...rodid=GX-042-BG&tool=3

Any help or suggestions appreciated

Ah, 7900 GTX's in SLI. That was my config prior to buying a GTX. I actually had GTO's, sold both of them and bought my GTX at launch.

First, get rid of the notion an upgrade is necessary because of Crysis. What a bloated piece of crap that was obviously created to force the upgrade. A savvy user will see beyond that scheme.

An upgrade does makes sense for you however in that it can be done cheaply and with a single card solution. Timing and budget come in to play. If the time is now and you' want minimal out of pocket, it's hard to ingore a single GT as a replacement. Above all it will yield consistent performance over your SLI setup, yielding mild to decent gains.

If you have time and cash, wait for the next high end single GPU solution. You've gone this long.

Whatever path you choose, single GPU cards are avaiable that will outperform 7900 GTX SLI. You can get out of SLI cheaply and start enjoying consistent results..

QFT.

People put way too much hype into certain games, and you'll only come out disappointed when "the game made for computers from outer space" (quoting Yahtzee) runs like crap on your Monolith. :(
