law varies by local area. mostly its length, here its 3.5" is ok..other places..might be different. generally something like 2" in government buildings. it doesn't seem to have auto open as well so thats more legal...

In California I believe it's legal to carry a knife that has a blade of under 5 inches. The restrictions vary from state to state though. I carry a folding knife that has a blade of a little under 4inches.

Actually according to this there's no limit on blade length of folding knives in CA, if I'm reading it correctly.

Wrong. It depends on whether you have a fixed or folding knife. Folding knifes have no limit unless you're at a school or something.

totally depends on the state/city and how its carried

i cant believe a knife like that wouldnt be serrated, though. is there a half-serrated model? serrations can be pretty useful

That knife looks pretty sweet, but 2 issues...

The "wire cutter" looks like it is on the back side of the blade and from the little picture I'd imagine you would have to be very, very careful not to cut your hand open using this feature.

The "wrench" doesn't look like a multi-size thing, so the usefulness is kind of absent. Granted if its 1/2" or 9/16" you can use it on a large chunk of hardware out there... having worked as a mechanic I know for a fact that the size of the bolt is whatever size you don't have on hand :(

wow, yeah, really. thats insane.

OP buy a Leatherman Surge for $80-ish and a good pocket knife. I love knives but I'll never spend $400 for one.

It looks like a highly overpriced knife made in China, rebadged using a known flashlight manufacturer's name.

It may be like buying a Colt or Smith and Wesson knife... they are junk.

Then again, Surefire could be a new Benchmark or Spyderco.

thanks. i'll look into it. i'm not going to pay 400 for it. i found someone local selling new around 300. i know its kinda pricey, but whatever. i want one just to carry for all around purposes.

In a country where you can legally carry a semi-auto handgun, there are restrictions on carrying knives?! I carry something like that and I live in freaking England!

I've been considering buying this knife lately.
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=259

It comes in a half serrated version too. It's supposedly well made for the price and since it's only $40 I won't be too worried about losing it. Also, I think the law on knives here in Ontario is something like 3". I really only need the knife for cutting boxes and rope occasionally.

For all around use, I like Swiss Army knives by Victorinox. For a defense knife I'd get a short fixed blade knife, and Leatherman(as well as other companies) make nice folding plier type knives. You could get a good example of each, and still have money left over. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the handle looks very thin, and it could be uncomfortable to hold. That looks like it would be best used by EMS as a backup tool if they don't have the appropriate tool immediately available.
