here are my current system specs:
msi k8n neo-fsr
amd 3200+ s754 newcastle core (oc'ed to 2.4ghz, seems like its max)
1gb corsair xms ram
BFG 6800oc 128mb version

my two upgrade options:
1) biostar tforce 6100 mobo and a 6800gs or sapphire radeon x800 gto2
2) amd 3700+ and ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 mobo

both will roughly cost the same, with option #2 being a little more expensive. i play games like hl2, fear, source, and bf2 all the time, so yea. and i plan on jumping on the am2 socket when it comes out, given that its meets all its expectations, so i'm trying not to spend too much now. so yea, which option should i go with or is there another one that sounds better? thanks

how much of an improvement would i notice if i went from my current video card to the ones mentioned.

I would say that the difference between the cards would be fairly small and not worth the price of the upgrade, imo. If you really want to upgrade now, go with the 2nd choice. Graphics upgrades for gamers are always good, but like I said before, the 6800 to 6800gs just isn't worth it.

what about the jump in performance if i went with the sapphire card, which can be unlocked to a x850xt pe and perform even better with some cooling solution?

THe performance jump would be a lot better, but I still don't think it's worth it. Now that I think about it, you shouldn't upgrade at all. You shouldn't spend hundreds to upgrade for a fairly small performance boost now, then spend more $$ upgrading to AM2 later. You might as well just save up all the money and get a huge performance boost with AM2 later by buying top of the line parts. You'd probably get better results with one big upgrade instead of two smaller upgrades. The 6800nu isn't that bad.
