That's a nice laptop if not gaming but the price seems high -- have you looked into the insane deals Dell offers every week or two? (Hot Deals forum here, or GottaDeal.com)

The dell deals have been sub par lately, and the news coming out of them are saying that the deals shall continue to be poor. The 700m which is the dell I was looking at has a small keyboard besides, and I am a big guy,

i agree,
i think the dells are a better deal. you could get a nice laptop with at least a 15' screen and 1 GB of RAM for a similar price I can't commend on the keyboard size though. I would also check out acer as they have some nice apsiron laptops. the one you selected is a nice laptop but i agree that it seems a bit expensive.

Thats a little extreme for a non-gaming laptop.....Maybe a dell 6000 M? Or maybe an acer travelmate if you don't care about weight :).

Another reason for Dell then, since they offer accident insurance on top of the regular warranty (for more money of course).

Of couse....The price above has teh accidental hp warranty included. Honestly maybe I am leaning away from a dell because I dont want to wait for coupons and I feel bad if I get anythign less than the best possible deal on the system I am buying. I know I'm crazy :p

well if u feel bad if u get anything less than the best possible deal on the system you're buying, why stick with the laptop listed? it's a very nice piece of machinery but i'm sure it could be had at under $1k with accidental insurance, shipping, and tax. just shop around and if you're desperate to get the hp u posted, wait a month (if u can) and wait for a good deal. thanksgiving is a couple months away and the best hardware deals are then

Compaq V2000Z laptop:

? AMD Turion ML-28 (1.6GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
? 14.0 WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x768)
? ATI Radeon 200M GPU
? 512MB DDR (2x256MB)
? 60 GB 5400 RPM HDD
? DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
? 54mbps 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
? 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- HP Deskjet 3847 Printer
- Windows XP Home SP2

$993 after two $50 mail-in rebates. IMO it's the best combination of performance, battery life, weight, style and support of most any laptop on the market. If I hadn't gotten a steal of a deal on a 12-inch Toshiba Tablet for $1000 on Ebay, I would've got this Compaq laptop without much hesitation (or the Toshiba S435 Tablet, but that's like $1800).

That looks pretty nice, though I did sort of have my heart set on a centrino book, I like the battery ife and integrated wireless. I will look into this, of course then I would have to get over my compaq-aphobia. Thanks for the heads up.
