What do you think of this idea for an oral health product?

My mom thought of this idea and wanted me to run it by some people.

Imagine you're washing dishes. You use the coarse scrubbed to get off grit, but to really get the surface clean you have to wipe it with the sponge or a cloth. Imagine you're washing floors. You can scrub it, but in the end you still have to mop it with something soft to get it clean.

Take this concept to the idea of teeth. You can brush them, but to really get them clean and smooth you should wipe them with something in the end.

Would you guys use something like this, and why or why not?

Toothpaste.
Floss.
Mouth wash.

I don't see why your product would be necessary. You don't need your teeth dry, they are just going to get covered with saliva, anyway.

The coarse scrubber will get off all the crap on a plate if you run it under water. I never re-scrub my plates with the sponge side because the water is always running when I do dishes.

Calculus isn't going to come off your teeth no matter how hard you scrub. (which you shouldn't be scrubbing hard anyways). Plaque is just bacteria buildup, which after brushing, rinsing most likely takes care of the rest anyways. Oh, and if I remember correctly, saliva kills alot of the bacteria on your teeth, by whiping it off, you are removing your bodies natural defense.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that a dentist will facepalm at this idea.

I guess this thread did have some benefit: I learned a new definition of "calculus."

God our language is messed up.:D

LMAO. In my dental assisting school years ago I remember when we started talking about calculus. We where all like WTF does math have to do with oral hygiene?

It is my experience that other people rarely have the same enthusiasm for a product idea as the person who thinks of it. There are numerous "dumb" products that sell well even though few people are really interested in it. A plastic rack for cooking bacon in a microwave certainly seems useless and dumb to me but an 8-year old girl patented and made a lot of money from such an idea.

It takes enthusiasm to motivate product development. If you think your idea will work, then go for it. This is where risk gets involved.
