its a 96 grand am gt 4 door, it has 63000 miles, and its $6500.....its in good shape and my dad checked it out and everything, i kinda trust him since he works on them every day (he owns a shop), but i dont know if its more of a girls car....also, its purple, im not too sure about that one either...basically, i have almost 9000 saved up but i dont know how much of it i want to spend on a car, i do have a job, just for the record...what do u guys think..btw, im 17

I think if it has 4 wheels, a driver's seat and a steering wheel, it's a good first car :)

I had a 96 Grand Am, and it ran like a champ. Had a lot of electrical/computer problems, though. For that price, you should look into getting a 66-68 Mustang or Firebird! Now that would make a sweet first car!

Sounds like a good first car, but I think its too expensive. I believe market value for that car should be around $5700, but the mileage on this particular one is kind of low (not enough to drive it up $800 though). I'd shop around a bit more. And who ever thought purple would be a good color for a car? ;) Oh well, my first car was teal, so I can't say anything about that...:D

BTW, $9000 savings at 17? Wow, congrats...you know how to handle money a lot better than I did at that age. :)

I just want to know how it got purple. Did they offer that car in purple, or did someone paint it that color?

wow...thanks for all the replies, guys....just for the record, some of that money came to me from my grandmother, but not nearly all of it, ive saved all but $2500....now to answer some questions, a japanese or other foreign car is out of the question, not because i dont like them, but because my dad works on domestics, so maintence is free :D (gotta love that free stuff)....also, the car was offered in purple...its actually a really dark color, and its kinda nice, although im still not so sure about driving it, maybe ill justhave to get my uncle to paint it black......i'd really like to buy my dad's friend's 5.0L mustang, but my dad wont let me, he said its too powerful and fast and my insurance would be too high....if anyone else has any suggestions, let me know, also, this car is loaded with everything but leather and a sunroof, it has the 3.1L V6, a cd and cassette, premium sound, and traction control (good for winter)

thanks,
Dave

Heh, I'm buying my first car tomorrow too. A cherry red, 74 Karmann Ghia. $2,100- brand new engine, suspension, transmission & custom rally wheels. Needs a new paint job, but other than that she's beautiful. I can't wait to take her home.

Good luck with your car too :D
