Not really. Sure, you can achieve that kind of grapihics using NV30, but it will be a LONG time before games start doing it. They still code for the lowest common nominator, which is something like GF1-GF2 these days.

Well, not Doom3. Anything less than a GF3 = 320x240 slideshow :D

He's right though. Even Doom 3 won't be THAT photorealistic. :(

Hell, my Radeon64 (fist gen radeon) still serves me well, all the games I have I play at 1024 or above.

Agree with you kami. Neverwinter won't play on my GF2 to full capacity. I think such games will arrive as soon as possible but maybe be somehwat playable for older cards.

edit: as to the chick, her ears aren't pointed enough.

Doom3 is an exception. But even it doesn't really take advantage of the more advanced features that are available.

EDIT: If I remember correctly, John Carmack commented on NV30 by saying that Doom3 is designed for what GF is capable of, his work after D3, will be designed around the capabilities of NV30.

Yeah Neverwinter is a hog...I even have to watch what settings I use on my GF4 Ti4200 128mb :Q I just think it's not very optimized for the graphics you get. If Doom3-like graphics had the same kind of poor optimization I don't think it would run on anything but the very top of the line, but Carmack optimizes the hell out of his engines...each graphic card gets its own code written even!

That rendered chick isn't photo-realistic though...people toss around the term "photo-realistic gaming" too much...they don't realize what they are saying. I'd say we'd be lucky as hell to have a game that looks identical to reality in 15 years....cause that's what photo-realistic is guys.

to be fair, I glanced over the picture and thought nothing of it (it never crossed my mind that it was rendered), only after I read the description did I say "how crap, that's rendered"

I didn't look closely, but it sure looked quite real to me.
