What do you think of the Windows Whistler desktop icons?

These icons are so much different than the win98 or win2k ones. What do you think of them?

Personally, I don't like them. I like the ones from Win2k more.

I'm not a big fan of anything whistler right now. I'll try not to pass final judgement until it's at least released though. :D

I didn't like win2k much either when it was in its betas.

Is this what we're down to? Judging an operating system by its icons? Surely not. :)

Of course we are ;) It takes whole 5 seconds to change them back to the old standard ;)

Windows XP = NT5.1 or Win2001
All the same versions + a new personal Version, the Win9x replacement.

If you like Win2K icons so much more, then copy and rename explorer.exe and shell32.dll from your win2k machine to your "My Documents" folder (Any folder will do) and change your whistler icons to the ones found in Win2K.

I personally like the XP icons more.

yes I would like to see some pics as well.
I have seen Beta 1 and I thought they looked the same as 2000.

In a way this looks interesting. It's starting to look different enought from Windows. Lets face it, since Windows 95 came out the interface to Windows has been almost exactly the same. I need some variety, and if Whistler can "shake things up" some without breaking the friggin' thing then in my book that's a good thing.

Now if I could just get the command prompt to look/act more like xterm . . . :)

Well I don't know about your themes (never seen them) but KDE2 (or rather 2.1) really does rock. I'm seriously considering taking Win2k off of my system and going Linux only when 2.1final is released. Only thing is I really want to play Warcraft III when it comes out, but I guess I could leave a 2 GB FAT32 partition open for whenever that comes out.

I'm with JellyBaby. Do the icons make the OS? Do the clothes make the man? Is beauty only skin deep? ... ok, I'll stop.

Well no, but agruably what more is there to work on for a while? MS has gotten the OS technically almost perfect in Win2k (even as a Linux user I'll admit that, though Linux 2.4.1 w/ Reiserfs is almost perfect as well), so either MS can: break some things trying to add useless features, do nothing and hence make no money, or they can tweak the UI. The latter sounds like the most promising solution.
