What do you think of the whole calories on the menu thing?

I'm actually quite annoyed. I haven't dined in chains for a while but while I was at BJ's last week, my friend and I were thinking of ordering a pizookie. 3 people actually. She finally flipped the menu close because it was 1000 calories.

Knowing she was a foodie, I was actually betting she WOULD get it. And she later admitted she wanted it, but the 1000 calories sealed the deal. BTW I'm not annoyed by her decision or anything. I have no problem foregoing a pizookie.

Honestly, we're not fat people by any means. I weigh 158 and I'm 5'9". But seriously? Do we need calories on the menu?

I understand many Americans overeat or are obese, but since when should we have to help them out by putting a huge STOP SIGN on the menu? I know what I'm getting myself into by getting a giant baked cookie with ice cream on the top.

People should learn that if they can't control their own nutrition or look up nutrition info on a website, that they should just get a heart attack.

Putting calories on the menu is just ridiculous... right next to the price.

Edit I like information, and as long as they're required to have a separate booklet that you can ask for, or look on their website, or whatever. What fast food places had before like a poster with the nutrition facts was just fine. I'm all for information, but it's a clear cut agenda when you stick it on the menu right next to the price though.

I support abolishing calorie labels. Those dirty calorie labels are ruining my dining experience.

Honestly, I look at the calories, go "interesting", then forget about it.

1000 calories for a meal is not that large imo, but obviously it depends on a lot of factors.

i try to eat over 3000 calories a day and i only eat 2 "meals" so to say ... lunch and dinner. my "breakfast" is simply a protein shake which is like 300-350 calories.

so yea to me 1k calories for a meal is pretty normal.

I'd rather the menus simply list total grams of fat, carb, and protein.

I'm not eating based on calories, I'm eating with a focus on more fat and protein, and less carbs than typical.

I like those labels and it helps me make my decision of what I should be eating.

I've given up on society and their absolute stupidity when it comes to nutrition. No amount of numbers or in your face nutritional labeling is going to fix dumb and/or lazy people.

I was at A&W last week and they had the calories on the menu above the counter.

It depends on body type, obviously you're a skinny ass ectomorph. If she's a fat ass mesomorph with a sedentary lifestyle then more power to her for wanting to live longer. Just because you can eat like sht and get away with it due to your high metabolism doesn't mean she will have the same results. If you were really that concerned, why not just give her a bit of yours? She didn't have to eat the whole thing. You should have offered to split one with her.

I would prefer the ingredients AND calories.

Yeah, yeah, I know - it's people like me that are sending this country down the fucking toilet. Now shut up, go shove another pie and pack of cigarettes into your mouth, you fat bastard.

I like the calories on the menu, it won't make me steer away from something I want, but it's nice to know exactly how many I'm consuming at a meal.

I think it's kind of smart. There are a lot of dumb people who have absolute no idea how many calories are in something. They order a "salad", then get extra croutons and extra full fat dressing and wonder why the person who ordered a full meal of steak and veggies stays thinner.
Personally when I got out to eat, I'm not going to NOT pick something b/c of extra calories. I don't go out a lot, so when I'm out to eat, it's my cheat time and I'll have whatever I want.

I like it just because I'm a curious person and I like to know these things. I seriously doubt it makes anyone less fat, however.

You were splitting the dessert three ways? I don't get the big deal with eating 300 extra calories when you go out for dinner once in awhile. Unless she's fat.

I think it's a good thing, give people that care and need to watch their calories the information hey need. I know I've been sitting at a restaurant and not ordered something because I wasn't sure how many calories it would be. Granted I typically eat over 3000 calories a day when I'm cutting weight, to maintain it's close to 3700. When I bulk it's... a lot. Even then 1000 calories is a lot for a person to eat in one meal especially if you're smaller and require fewer calories...

Who the hell can eat a whole pizookie or even two people after eating a casserole at BJs?

What does this have to do with the OP's question about the calories on the menu?

I don't see a need for it.

I like to know how many calories I'm eating since I try to keep under 4000 per day. It's harder if I've gotta estimate.
