Its called "Defy You" and its from the Orange Country soundtrack.

I must say, its really good, and I love it, but I really don't see the Offsrping as "punk" rock, they were never very punkish to begin with...

Haven't heard it yet, but I hope their new stuff will be like their first album (Smash) IMHO they've only had a couple good songs since then. Smash I loved from beginning to end.

Smash was their THIRD Album. The offspring DEFINITELY used to have a punk rock sound to them, right up through Smash. It's been all downhill since them.

I'll go find this new single.

Edit: what about the new single sounds punk to you?

It's a pretty good song, but not punk.

If you like the song what difference does it make if they are hardcore punk or pop/punk? Is it just because they're on this particular soundtrack or what? Not trying to start a war, just curious.

Opps, Smash was the first album I listened to, didn't know it was actually their third.

I have Smash, Ignition, and Ixnay on the Hombre and they're all good but are any of the later cds like Americana good like punk like they used to be?

I loved The Offspring (Self-titled CD), Ignition, and Smash, I thought Ixnay on the Hombre and Americana sucked ass, and the new Conspiracy of One, although a different sound, is pretty good music again.

it makes no difference to me music wise. Its just that they are widely regarded as punk, but I don't see that really. Still good songs though.

I guess I'm one of the few that liked Americana...

:Q I stand corrected... wow that's pretty horrible. I remember seeing them in 1994 after Smash was released, can't believe what they've become. :(

Why is it that as soon as people start to like a band, some people dislike them just because a lot of people like them? The music is still the same music. In The End - Linkin Park was a good song when nobody knew the band existed, it's STLIL A GOOD SONG! Even if a million people love Linkin Park, that doesn't mean that their song sucks. Ugh... I am annoyed at hearing their songs all the time though, aka, radio overplayage factor... but that doesn't mean they suck.

As for Offspring, I think songs like Original Prankster are annoying as hell. Self Esteem and The Kids Aren't Alright are probably two of their best more popular songs. I'm not sure which album the song is from, but it's called "Feelings", i like the guitar in the intro. Come out and play is a kinda cool song, imo... I haven't heard all that much Offspring, nor have I heard the new single - but I do generally like the older stuff more, dunno why. Most bands are like that tho .. it's pretty hard to stay around for that many years and stay original and fresh sounding.

The Offpsring has had a long life and they've done pretty well, so congrats to them. On a sidenote, a more punk (ska at one point too) band, NOFX, has been around longer than The Offspring (about 3 years longer)... that surprised me. NOFX did a great job of being a great punk and ska band, AND not getting killed by popularity. To name a couple of songs I like by NOFX: Liza and Louise (sweet guitar solos in there), Dinosaurs Will Die, Jonny Appleseed, Drugs Are Good :)P).

Well, I'm out.
