What do you think of The 4400?

I just started watching these from netflix. I'm on the second disc of the first season.

I normally don't notice acting in whatever I'm watching but this show doesn't appear to have very good acting. I don't care about most of the characters.

I'm totally not looking for any kind of spoilers, I just want to know, does the show get better?

I think it was an AWESOME concept, with some good writing as the show progressed. You're correct though, the acting is not exceptional and much of the crew work (cinematography, music, effects, etc) weren't that good. Overall I enjoy the show for some mindless background but that's about it.
