The Fujitsu lifebook p-20xx series notebooks are the smallest, full featured notebook with an internal optical drive (at least this was the case a year ago when I bought mine). A ~3lb. notebook that can run WinXP acceptably with DVD/CDRW combo drive in it is a pretty rare thing. My absolute only complaint with it is the performance of the Crusoe chip. I have the original 800Mhz version and it isn't quite fast enough to do everything I think the laptop should be capable of. It plays DVDs pretty well but it can only play some divx files without losing synch/skipping a lot of frames. I'd assume the newer 933Mhz(?) with better videomodel would help fix this one problem.
The original ones didn't have the option for onboard 802.11b but they added that just after they finally got stock of the original ones. <sigh>
With the extended battery and the DVD drive in the media bay I get around 5 hours of normal usage, somewhat less if I'm heavily accessing the drive or using 100% of the CPU. There are also no fans in the thing. You can only faintly hear the hard drive spinning in a quiet room.
As for the topic of this thread, I remember looking at the picturebook at the time and didn't like the fact that it had no onboard optical drive, and the Crusoe chip was the even slower 667Mhz version. If they have a faster version now then it might be a better performer.
I'm hoping that Fujitsu will come out with a Pentium-M version of the P-series notebooks but I'm pretty sure that I shouldn't be getting my hopes up...
Oh, and take a look at Toshiba's Libretto L1 line. Those are some sweet subnotebooks as well though they are pretty expensive.
