What do you think of Seagate Laptop Drives?

Well... a book fell onto my laptop while it was on (I wasn't in the room) and killed my stock 100GB, 5400RPM Fujitsu drive. After rushing around trying to find a computer with which to confirm my diagnosis, I went about ordering a new drive. I ordered a 7200RPM, 100GB Seagate ATA-6 drive to replace it and was wondering what people think of this drive? Thankfully, this is orientation week at school (I'm helping out) and so I'll have time to replace it, etc...

Seagate makes pretty good desktop drives, so i would assume that would carry over to their laptop drives.

And this is why every laptop should have Sudden Motion Sensors... unless the book like crushed the drive of course.... then nothing could have saved it.

That drive is fine. Hopefully you checked to make sure your origional drive was a PATA and not SATA.

Yeah, the original is PATA (as well as the replacement).

It must have died because it was writing when the book smacked the top of the machine. Not the end of the world, thankfully, I will lose no files due to my external backup drive . It wasn't even a big book, just one of those AAA books for the city of Chicago. Whatever... can't sweat the small stuff. It was a good excuse to put a 7200RPM drive in and see the difference for myself.

Well, I finally got my computer working again. The installation of the drive was a breeze, getting the restore cds to work was another matter all together. Apparently, the DOS program that runs the restore CDs doesn't like more than 1GB of RAM, so I had to pull my 2GB stick to get it to go, but so far, I'm problem free on my new Seagate drive.
