What do you think of people who succeed only after experiencing multiple failures?

Have you failed at something several times, but tried many many times until you finally succeeded? I would be pretty much a failure if I didn't persistently try many times at something before succeeding. For example, I took the SAT 5 times to get a good score. I don't know what to think of myself...am I just very persistent or am I someone who tends to screw things up and never gets things right the first time?

The best batter in baseball fails more times at the plate than he succeeds. If it's important to you, then go for it. I think that's very commendable;)

some of the finest people I know are those with the heart to not give up even if they have to attempt a task many times before suceeding. LOL, if you want to be real on the subject, I'm one of life's slow learners myself, spent most of high school too busy thinking I was all that, getting gorked and doing stupid stuff to learn anything, didn't get my GED till I was 28 and then went to college nights so I have respect for the kind of effort you are describing :D

I think people who only succeed after trying multiple times are certainly very persistent.

I generally think of such people as losers, although there really isn't anything wrong with it.

You mean, for example, Abraham Lincoln who ran for office and lost multiple times? Or, pehaps, Sam Walton who was a bankrupt drunk at 35?

The only failure is in no longer trying.

About being called a loser...I always feel that after trying so many times and still failing, I will indeed be a loser if I don't keep trying and eventually succeed. I think that motivates me.

This quote is credited to Michael Jordan....That being said, it doesn't matter who said it, I have always lived by it....

<< I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed. >>

that's a pretty good and inspiring quote by Jordan but has he really ever failed at anything? Ok, he didn't do so well playing baseball but other than that, he is probably the most successful athlete ever.

He was cut from his high school basketball team his sophomore year (or was it junior?). Coach said he didn't have talent and wasn't athletic enough :D True story.

If nobody ever failed, that would mean they never stuck their neck out and tried anything. Most of the millionaires I know have had to pick themselves up out of a hole, some more than once. From personal experience, I have been there a couple times, and in a major way. :)

here's the history of Lincoln that really inspires me whenever I think of failure and success.

1848 Lost renomination (Chose not to run for Congress, abiding by rule of rotation among Whigs.)

No finer words have ever been spoken, except I must add one caveat:

The definition of 'insanity' is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.

yea failure it ok. the amazon.com and buy.com CEOs took many tries to get where they are , and well their companies arent doing THAT great, but they are still around. I think doing things once perfectly can say you are gifted or more likely lucky i.e. michael dell
