What do you think of my new computer?

I've been planning this computer for a while now, and I'll probably go ahead with it in a couple of weeks. But before I commit myself I was just wondering if there is anything you guys think I can improve on. I wont be overclocking, at least not until I think the system is too slow 😛

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Skt 939 Cpu
Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 nForce 4 Motherboard
x2 512MB Kingmax DDR400 RAM
Gigabyte nVidia 6600GT PCI-E Video Card
160GB Seagate SATA HDD
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Logitech Z-5300E 5.1 Speakers
Pioneer DVR-108 DVD Writer
Sony Floppy Drive
17" Philips 170B5CB LCD Monitor
Thermaltake Tsunami Black Case
Enermax 470W EG475-VE PSU
Logitech Cordless Desktop LX700

A few things I'm concerned about, firstly whether I should get the Gigabyte Sli motherboard instead so I can add another 6600GT later on. I wanted to get a 6800GT but no one sells a pci-e one in New Zealand. Secondly I looked at the Dell 2005FPW LCD and really liked the look of it but I'm not sure I can justify the increased price, and for that I'd need some more GPU power too. And lastly will not having a logitech MX mouse be that noticeable when playing games, if you haven't guessed gaming is what this computer will be used a lot of the time for but Logitech have stopped making the MX Duo desktop set and I want a wireless keyboard and mouse. If I don't like the mouse I think I'll just buy an MX1000 later on. My budget isn't endless but I'd apreciate any thoughts on what I could get which would be better.

Couple of things- might try for Plextor PX 716 DVD Burner and get a 6800 PCI card (I have to cocede-if you can find one) . Other than that good comp. *Sidenote, I love plextor although I have heard great things about pioneer.

Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 nForce 4 Motherboard try the Chaintech VNF4/Ultra ($130), or wait for more selection; I would recommend against SLI
x2 512MB Kingmax DDR400 RAM Kingmax's quality may be questionable; I'd go for Mushkin or Corsair value RAM ($140)
Gigabyte nVidia 6600GT PCI-E Video Card this is fine--a 6800 vanilla won't be too much of a boost; if you want a 6800GT and all they have is AGP, though, by all means go AGP (I don't foresee your 6800GT becoming grossly out of date for a while, and AGP support should continue for at least another year)
160GB Seagate SATA HDD
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS might not be necessary for those speakers; if you're looking for something cheaper just for some added music quality, try a Chaintech AV710. ask others about how much an Audigy 2 actually improves sound in games
Logitech Z-5300E 5.1 Speakers
Pioneer DVR-108 DVD Writer try the NEC 3520A
Sony Floppy Drive
17" Philips 170B5CB LCD Monitor
Thermaltake Tsunami Black Case
Enermax 470W EG475-VE PSU overkill? to save some money on a case and PSU, look into an Antec Sonata; otherwise, I'd recommend a PSU rated around 400W with sufficient +12V amperage (18A minimum, anything above 24A will be overkill for this) from Antec, Enermax, Fortron, or Seasonic
Logitech Cordless Desktop LX700 expect a little lag when gaming, as with anything wireless

my two cents

Thanks for the quick replies.

I found some info on that logitech desktop set with the mx1000, looks great, definitely worth waiting for. Any ideas on when it will actually be available? I'll probably have to wait another month after the US release until I can get it in New Zealand. I'll just find some an old keyboard and mouse lying around and use them for a while.

I've had no problems with kingmax ram before apart from one faulty stick which I got replaced easily. I'll have a look around for some Corsair or Mushkin value ram though.

I think I will go with just a 6600GT and when it gets too slow ill just upgrade in a couple of years or whenever. As long as I can play games at 1280x1024 with basically all the setting at full except AF and AA I'll be happy.

A friend of mine did get an Audigy 2 ZS and he reckoned there was a decent improvement over onboard sound. I could buy it later if I thought I needed it after trying the onboard sound.

From what I've read the Pioneer and NEC DVD writers perform roughly the same and I can get the Pioneer easier.

That PSU might be a bit of overkill I agree, but it allows plenty of headroom for any future upgrades.

Never had any lag problems with my MX700, love it to death.
