OMG TOTAL FAT COW
Just kidding... seriously, she's tiny.

Anyway... looks like the original picture wasn't too good? But other than that its a pretty good start!

Hey! I took the pictures! ;)

Anyhow, the reason why she is so light in the jar is because in the original picture she was in the dark and the jar purposely was set in a ray of light...

That's good work. But always try working with photos that have as little grain as possible. The end result is always so much more satisfying.

True. They were shot at ISO 200 on a Nikon D70 btw. You wouldn't think you would get significant grain at that level.

Not half shabby, and that's the work I do.

Things to consider: the difference in saturation between the pixie and the rest of the pic, and the light source blowing out the bottom of the jar should be having a greater effect on her. The wings are nicely shaped but need some additional depth. Putting a screened copy of the jar over selected parts of the pixie, or a nice distortion map might make her appear to be more inside the jar.

If she's going to deal with print at all in her dream job, tell her to do herself a favor and work a semester for a printer - 40 hours at a decent printer or service bureau will teach her indispensible things that (probably) won't be touched on in school.

Thanks, great info!

EDIT: About the saturation, I think that may have been due to the fact that the pictures were shot at different places/times. We should have brought everything and shot in the same place. Also, I think she may have intentionally taken some color out of the skin to look more pale and she also darkened the hair.

BTW, the wings WERE REAL. They were actually wings that she bought at a Hot Topic a while back, she just cut out the black strap on her shoulder.
