NEW JERSEY
Seconded. Everyone assumes it's nothing but a toxic waste dump, but they've never seen anything but Newark. They forget about all of the businesses (particularly pharmaceutical) we have, and how much of our federal tax money gets redistributed to poor states that are ironically mostly inhabited by republicans who are against redistribution of wealth.
Werd.
without doubt, NJ is the most underappreciated of all the states.
only connecticut has a higher income / capita than NJ, NJ is the pharmaceutical capital, Dow Jones, Merril Lynch, NY Times, ATT, Lucent all have their main facilities in NJ to name just a few. without question NJ has surpassed Philly for economic power and will soon pass up NY. by NJ i'm really referring to a 60 mile diameter centered around Edison. go 30 miles north, south, east and west from edison. take that population, # corporate presences, medium size businesses and add it up and ONLY NYC surpasses it, and even that is getting questionable at the rate of growth NJ is seeing.
nj gets the smallest percentage of federal money back of any state in the US and has obviously because of the per capita income, one of the highest rate of money being sent to the fed.
