With all the hoopla surrounding the the new Wilson Audio X-2, I'm interested to know what you think are some of the best loudspeakers out there.

I love Thiel, but there really is no such thing as the best speakers, one brand might sound good to me, but it might sound too warm, bright to you.

Definitely, definitely Bose. ;)

hehe, and I agree, "best" is a very subjective term, and if you want to evenly and properly compare speakers, you'd need an accoustically treated room, and those don't do much for a home's aesthetics.

not like any of us here will ever even THINK of buying a pair. As much as I dream of them, it's not realistic. Well, except for Anand. ;) :D

I think they're kidding about the bose - but the answer could only be determined after you gave a price range and then matched speakers to your particular tastes. Kind of like cars there is not one best car (not including maximas of course).

The Rockport Technologies Antares speakers are probably one of the best for a normal listening space.

Vandersteen should get a mention even though (as pointed out) this is all very subjective.

One of my buddies has a pair of Soliloquy 6.5s, He is sort of an audiophile, and he has about 2500 CDs .... he claims these are the best speakers he has ever heard. They are kinda pricy though.

I am happy with my BIC America RTR1530s ... (cheapo speakers with 15in woofer, 5in mid, and 2dn tweeters)

In my home, I have a 5.1 system consisting of Cerwin-Vega and Wharferdale. Wanted to spend less than $1000 to get the best bang for the buck and I'm happy with this setup.

I have the Legacy Focus speakers, and they are the best i have heard.
However, I would bet the Reference Paradigms are better.
They are powered, and have a custom active EQ (not ot be confused with a passive EQ) for each speaker.
The only speakers that would be better would have to also use this technology, and I think Infinity is another company also doing this.

Those are nice speakers, but are hardly pricy if you were to compare them to some of the other company's flagship models. They are expensive to me, however.

The most expensive speakers I know of are about $90,000 per channel, so $180,000 for a stereo pair. They are made by Genesis, and each speaker stands about 7 feet tall, and weigh half a ton per channel.

Onyx Rockets

Unbelievable value for the money. They come highly recommended from a lot of people. Check AVSForum or HTForum for some reviews.
