Hello, I am doing research for building a DIY rig that will run Windows Media Center 2004 or 2005 SP2 and Ubuntu (or rather Kubuntu) Linux. I want to have my rig to have an AM2-socket SLI motherboard that can work fine with windows and Linux without any issues. I plan to, with such information, be able to look around for good deals for any particular make and model that are suggested in this thread. THis is my first DIY rig so all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

MSI K9N SLI Platinum for dual PCIe x8
Foxconn C51XEM2AA- 8EKRS2H for dual PCIe x16 (the NVIDIA reference design board)

Both should work with Ubuntu.

and what about Gentoo Linux? would it work with such motherboards? How about any more recent AM2-SLI motherboards. Any other suggestions?

Asus MN-SLI DELUXE is a great board and works just fine with linux I have tested gamer puppy knoppix and several others with no problem. also cool and quiet is a big bonus as this saves power and heat.

Okay. Thank you very much. Do you have a link for the motherboard you talk of? I have tried to look for in newegg but could not find anything but mobos with similar product model numbers.

Oh and one more thing do you know what the whole business of .xgl and .xorg business is order to set up 3-D desktops? I am going back and doing some personal research on the components that make up an operating system to better understand the components of 3-D windows desktop manager.

Again appreciate your suggestions...
