We moved into a new neighborhood. Everyone watered their grass to keep it nice, paid for truegreen, etc. I on the other hand disconnected my sprinkler system, my lawn struggled. 11 years later my lawn is nice and green whereas the neighbors are crap. Watering restrictions have killed their fake lawns while my grass was replaced with native greenery that doesn't need water or fertilizer or anything more that a cut really.
I'm not one of those environmental people but I really don't understand why so many want to dump fertilizers and water on their yard, it is such a waste.
You're just not far enough west...This is what I'm going to do. Western Oregon is getting extremely hot in the summer, and the amount of water to keep even a small lawn green is an obscenity. I'm going to rip it all out and put in some native plants surrounded by mulch and/or rocks.
As an added benefit, I'm hoping the pollinators drawn in by the native plants help my garden.
Actually fertilizer-runoff is one of the worst water-pollution issues we face in America and its largely to blame for the majority of harmful algae-blooms in fresh-water lakes.
Private lawns and golf-courses are some of the worst polluters around.
🙁
Zuck'emIn-laws insist on ...
ZUCK THAT !!!!Family home, so 'both'.
- 7 visits for the next 12 months - weeding, grubs, and fertilizer.
- 1 visit is total overseeding / aeration. This includes tons of dead spots of empty areas into full grass - ($220 by itself)
- This one year program of above all is $720 including tax
What do you guys think?
If you are growing cool-season grass, it's almost a waste of time to re-seed in the spring.
