Which one do you think is the best?

Letter One:

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing to you to appeal the parking ticket that I received on April 3, 2003 while parked in a bike rack at the Horticulture building on the University of Wisconsin campus.

My moped was incorrectly registered as a motorcycle. Under the following statues it falls under the definition of a moped. According to Wisconsin State statue 340.01, subsection 29m, ??Moped? means any of the following motor vehicles capable of speeds of not more than 30 miles per hour with a 150?pound rider on a dry, level, hard surface with no wind.? Paragraph b in subsection 29m states, ?A Type 1 motorcycle with an automatic transmission and an engine certified by the manufacturer at not more than 50 cubic centimeters or an equivalent power unit.?

Since my Yamaha Zuma fits these qualifications as a moped, the same moped parking restrictions should also apply to it. According to Wisconsin State statue 346.54, subsection e, ?For the purpose of parking, mopeds and electric personal assistive mobility devices shall be considered bicycles. Where possible without impeding the flow of pedestrian traffic, a bicycle, moped, or electric personal assistive mobility device may be
parked on a sidewalk. A bicycle, moped, or electric personal assistive mobility device may be parked in a bike rack or other similar area designated for bicycle parking.? I ask you to please note on my ticket, that my moped was found in a designated bicycle parking rack.

I am a college student and therefore I don?t have a large disposable income. I am currently working fifteen to twenty hours a week while attending school full time. I would ask you to please allow me to reregister my moped and wave the ticket so that I can put the forty dollars towards rent, utilities and groceries. Thank you for your time and concern in the matter.

Letter Two

How about this?

Dear Sir or Madam:

Please waive the parking ticket that I received on April 3, 2003 while parked in a bike rack at the Horticulture building on the University of Wisconsin campus.

My moped was incorrectly registered as a motorcycle. Under the following statutes it falls under the definition of a moped. nice letter but this is after the fact. At the time you were issued the ticket it was registerd differently. I have a feeling they will say next time you will not get a ticket but u still have to pay this one. I hope i am wrong and they will decide to give you a brake as u are poor student. Good Luck.

I agree with that. Just get rid of it. It serves no real purpose except to bitch and moan to them.

And ditch the first one too. "I am writing to you..." is a no-no in business letters. Fix "statutes" and "waive".

so should I just say that I will reregister my moped and ask them to drop the ticket? or just end after paragraph 2?

Don't say thank you. They haven't done anything.

So you're one of the crazed moped drivers I dodge on my trip to class every day?

But about the topic, yeah, remove the last paragraph and "I am writing to you" parts, and it looks good.

The UW parking patrol is a joke, but hey if I can get paid for sitting in a jeep all day long I can't say I would turn it down.

I also fixed your punctuation and redundancy errors.

No I'm attempting to maneuver around the moron freshmen on the sidewalk too. Its amazing the difficulties people have with walking or driving around here.

Have you witnessed any of the pedestrian + moped incidents? Funny stuff.

One thing at a time. Fix the ticket, then re-register. And do not say thank you. Your 2nd draft still had an unnecessary last paragraph.

You might look at the University statutes. Most schools don't give a flying flip about what the state says. Maybe they say that all motorized vehicles have to park on the curb. You may be fighting a losing battle. How much is the ticket?
