Hi, I just like to ask for your opinions whether you would recommend the Gigabyte GA-6OXT as a decent board (its very cheap) for a Tualatin Celeron 1.0A Ghz CPU, as I need a new system (cheap/value) since my old one has had its days.

Here's what I was thinking of buying:

Celeron T 1.0A Ghz
Gigabyte GA-6OXT
128MB Crucial RAM

Here' what I have left from my old system to bring over:

Seagate Barracuda ATA/66 7200 20.4GB
Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 TV-OUT 64MB
Samsung 6X DVD
Soundblaster Live Player
250W PSU + Case
17in Monitor, speakers, mouse, KB, etc,

I was also wondering what's the performance like of the CPU campared to PIII/PVI, I might be interested to go for a 1.2 Celeron for an extra 20 bucks or just overclock the 1.0A, but i don't know, what do you think? any advice,

thanks

Do you plan on overclocking it? x-bit labs just did an article on the 1.0A @ 1.5. I use a similar board, the GA6OXET-C. I don't know if the GA6OXT has all the overclocking features of the XET board such as Vcore adjustments.

Yes I do plan on doing a bit of overclocking but not much. I also checked on Gigabyte's web-site and I saw that there weren't any huge differences between this or similar ones apart from features such as raid, on board sound, its just a plain 815EP board which is why its so cheap, and I think it has all the overclocking features as the rest of them.

Oh, I also checked out the review, and I thought it was great to get so much out of a celeron 1.0A, but that was with the ST6, hope it can be the same with the gigabyte though.

I looked at the manual. I didn't see any Vcore adjustments. The XET-C like I have doesn't have the Creative sound, etc. I'd check to be sure that board has Vcore Adj. Without it, you wont be overclocking. Get a XET-C, TUSL2-C, or an ST6 if there is any doubt.

Pricewatch
GA6OXT = $79
ABIT ST6 = $82
ASUS TUSL2-C = $87

Spend a couple of extra $$ and be sure you have a board that will overclock that 1.0A!
