What do you think about rebates?

In membership stores like Costco..the rebate should be returned to the customer at the check out stand. Costco has a business relationship with the vendors. There's no reason not to do this.

I try to avoid rebates as much as possible but sometimes they make an item so hard to pass up.

They all come in so I don't mind. It helps me refrain from buying sometimes, so its a good thing. :)

I just forget sometimes and it sucks. I've forgotten so far on 30 bucks for of contacts and 80 bucks worth of hard drive rebates. Oh well, a lesson learned.

I scored a (Cendyne) Lite-On LTR-52246S CDRW drive today for $10.00 AMIR. I've only been burned once out of 30~35 rebates. I am meticulous about filling out and saving copies of the forms, and I RTFM so that I don't submit a rebate for which I don't qualify.

Yeah for Rebates.

I hate rebates.

I wrote a 10 page research paper for English, and my subject was rebates.

The paper sucked though.

I am the opposite as TC and I'll never do rebates from now on... Lost $900 on a dell computer rebates around x-mas cause I was too lazy or busy.. Learned it's not worth it to me after getting that "oh crap, i missed the date for yet another rebate" feeling. Now I buy everything at newegg or similar discount store and am feeling good about it.

Eited for spell and clarity.

Holy Procrastination, Batman!

I once received a $75.00 rebate check from US Robotics. Around the same time, I also received two $50.00 gift certificates in partial trade on a gun I sold. I sat them all on my dresser, intending to deposit them later in the week, where they became covered by some other papers. Out of sight, out of mind.

I let them sit there until all $175.00 worth had expired.

I only do rebates that is from reputable company or good rebate processing center.
I will never buy stuff from BB, CompUSA, or Fry's that involve their in house rebate.
Hellish is an understatement.

ugh, I just realized that I missed sending out a rebate for ram. There were two rebates for one item, a $20 and a $10. Missed the deadline for the $10 one. :\

I wish I could return it but the original UPC went out with the other rebate.

Rebates make you work for your money... sure it looks like a good deal originally... but how do you know it'll pan out?

some people just give up after a while... I had $20 off of a digital camera that I had to literally fight best buy for 3 months on before they finally gave the rebate... talk about fun eh? Most people will just say screw it, and the business makes a nice profit. They're a sleasy way of getting you to buy something because it's on "sale" technically, you just have to wait and see if you'll get it for the sale price when the rebate comes (or if it ever does)

if it is a good deal with a rebate or FAR, i dont hesitate. I havent had no problems yet (knock on wood) with them so i will continue with them until they become a hassle. Right now I have $551 in outstanding rebates.
