what do you think about ES chips?

ES chips are generally inferior to retail chips. I wouldn't be interested in an ES myself.

almost bought two from e-bay few weeks back,
it said nothing related to them being ES's,
though,

the price was half...,
realized it only later on,
luckily it didn't eventually work out.

I thought ESes were usually cherry-picked, for use in reviews. They might, however, have a few unironed out bugs or something (not too sure on the details of this).

ES's could be earlier chips, or early new chips, or quite standard, you can't really know until you check.

They're usually unlocked, aren't they? That can make overclocking a little more interesting if so.
