referring to chips? If im the only one eating them, fine.

If im sharing the dip with others than no.

Getting the tostitos scoops eliminates double dipping due to their size.

i'm not that fussy about it, considering that probably more of the germs will stay on the chip anyway, but I avoid doing it to be courteous. Actually didn't Mythbusters do an episode on that, I can't recall the results now...

Depends who else is dipping. Other guys? Then no double dipping allowed. Women? Maybe.

This thread is now about tipping.

What are your thoughts on double tipping?

Sometimes if services already include a 'mandatory tip', but they did an EXCELLENT job, I like to also give another 10-15% on top.

I refrain from doing it because that's the social convention, but it really doesn't bother me.

if you don't eat all the dip in one sitting, double dipping will probably lead to your dip being really runny when you go to get some more in a day or 2.

NEVER!!!

I always get the feeling that I'm being tricked because they never ever tell you that there's a mandatory tip (verbally). Then they put down the "Tip" line on the CC receipt, expecting you to tip them again! The deceit!!!!!!

BTW, a friend told me that 20% is the minimum now.. :hmm:

Usually, if they don't make any mistakes (food comes out in a timely manner, beverages are refilled constantly, doesn't hover over us) then I tip 20%. Most of the time, I tip 20%, but I've tipped 10%, 15%.. and in some cases, 0 (very rare) depending on the service. He said he tips 20% when it's bad and usually tips 30%. Thoughts?

I don't understand places that have a mandatory tip. It's not a tip anymore, it's just a fancy way of making it more expensive. It's like adding a tax or something. It defeats the whole purpose of a tip.

I've convinced several women that while not mandatory, putting the tip in may cure the common cold.

Sometimes in a restaurant I get the urge to double dip, but my mom is also sharing the queso.

People are shedding things everywhere all the time, especially those who are preparing your food. Ever eat at a restaurant? About three people 'double dipped' in your food (sweat, skin cells, breathing or coughing droplet nuclei, hair, et. al.). You have an immune system that was keeping your ancestors alive and thriving 1,000 years ago. Embrace it.
