I do wish we weren't so uppity about alcohol at work in the States. If someone wants a beer at lunch and works a desk job I don't see a problem with it. Was on a business trip in Europe and found this to be very common. Seems like it used to be common here too from what I've heard from the older gen.

Americans are still dealing with a lot of things from our Puritan roots. Drugs, alcohol, sex. A psychiatrist would need one bigass couch to put the whole country on it and have us talk about our mother...

This. I was able to buy alcohol and smokes in Europe as a teenager with no problems. Alcohol is definitely a celebrated part of their culture with none of the puritanical guilt we find here in the states. I remember going to see a movie in a theatre and being able to buy beer at the concession stand. Europe has a very tough stance against drunk driving and alcoholism & public drunkeness is looked down upon.

Shouldn't be an issue as long as people aren't gong overboard with it and are still being productive. If you're worried about people getting drunk and raping each other, you're hiring the wrong people.
