Hi guys I've been out the oc game for a bit and am looking to upgrade my p4 1.8a @ 2.5 to something faster. Looking to upgrade the mobo and ram too. What model processor - intel or amd is the best to go for overclocking ?

are you into gamming or more into audio/video encoding. if your into gaming, i would suggest a amd 64 3200+ venice core and the msi k8n neo2 platinum motherboard if u r planning on keeping the the gf 6800nu. for ram i would just keep the 1gb ddr 2700 samsung. as long you dont mind loosing 2-5% in performance and if you are not overclocking..

if you are into audio/video encoding, id suggest just finding the fastest processor your motherboard supports.

Probably use the machine as follows -

30% gaming
50% surfing/email
20% video encoding

How much can the 3200+ be oc'd to ?

im not really sure how high it can be overclocked too. i think some people are overclocking the 3200+ to 2.4-2.6ghz.

from what i've been seeing, the venice core 3000+ cpus have been oc'ing the same as the 3200+'s with some of them getting up to 2.8ghz on the stock cooler. of course you can always pick up a thermalright xp90 hs from jabtech for 25 bucks for some better cooling if needed.
