Only occassionally do I use something, and that is only if I don't have time to shower.

antipersp is gross and unnatural.

how is it gross?

People sweat for a reason. Not sweating just doesn't seem right. I realize I'm in the minority on this one...

Again, there is no physical harm from slowing the rate of perspiration in the armpits. None.

Why not be nice to those around you and try not stinking?

"No physical harm" ya right lookup "hidradenitis suppurativa" I've had to live with that stuff for 5 years of my live and counting with random flare ups. Easiest way to stop flare ups is to avoid the anti-perspirants constantly, using talcum powder instead to just absorb the sweat.

Hell most of the ingedients in a anti-perspirant aren't very healthy. Aluminum Oxicide was it?

I used Sure for a bunch of time and eventually made this condition much worse, had to use no products for a month till the surgery scar healed. Not even hypo-allergenic anti-perspirants worked. At the end of the deal Johnsons non-perfumed talcum powder does the trick and lasts longer than any of the stuff I used before. Cheaper too.

Moral of the story stopping pores from dumping out sweat isn't healthy (causes the liquid to sit there breeding bacteria) and in some cases can lead to horrendously painful boils. Ever been punched in the armpit? Imagine that everyday with a bad flare up. So you folks have a good one. ^^

Don't try to convince Amused that anything is bad for you. If it was approved by the government then it must be totally harmless for you!

Just deoderant, i believe.

Right now I'm using a sample stick from Degree that came in the mail cause it smells pretty. Normally I'd just use whatever was on sale at the store...usually Dove or something like that. I dont actually need deoderant b/c I don't really smell when I sweat...but it's nice for in case I eat some onions and the such. lol.

Used to use Right Guard Xtreme anti-perspirant and deoderant when I was younger back when Tom Green was promoting it. I used it untill I started breaking out and itching. Now I use Old Spice deadorant with no anti-perspirant.

i haven't seen research on antipersperant in particular, but high levels of aluminum in the body have been correlated with higher incidence of alzheimer's disease. absorbing a bunch of aluminum all day might not be the best thing... that said, i still use it.

Your condition is not caused by antiperspirant. You'd have it regardless.

They may aggravate your PRE-EXISTING condition, but they did not cause it.

Finally, there is no valid proof of harm from using antiperspirants.

Um, no. If no valid peer reviewed and repeated study can find harm, all claims of such are myth and folklore.

It's called objective, rational thought. Try it some time.

Another small snipet

Hit up google with the phrase "side effect of anti-perspirant"

You keep your sure/right guard/and all those other fancy anti-perspirants, I'll stick to my talcum powder.

Your first link shows no harm, except in people with sensitive skin.

Your second link is absurd and full of misinformation.

Stop blaming your pre-existing condition on antiperspirants.

http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic259.htm

Nothing there about antiperspirants being the cause of your problem.

A genetic predisposition to hidradenitis suppurativa likely exists, with one study noting that 38% of patients had a relative with hidradenitis.

Get over it.

Anti-perspirants make me sweat about 10 times more than I normally do. Deodorant only for my pits and just a single swipe/spray at that.

Wow, I could swear that happens to me too. And I thought I was just wierd. That said, I still use Old Spice. However the Mountain Rush one causes my armpits to itch, so I stick to the other (?)flavors(?).
