i plan on just sanding till the case is smooth, then painting right on. then probably some sprays of clear or lacquer and maybe some hand glaze.

which paint would give me the shiny/durable look that i need? had any good/bad experiences?

thx in advance

i like krylon myself. but that cause i like their satin finish and colors the best. most folks i have heard from do not like rustoleum at all.

I highly suggest a good sandable primer coat / sand 400 grit / primer / main paint color / clear coat method.

and don't skimp on the dry times....

good luck

If you have a quality automotive paint shop near by, they can custom mix the color you want and put it in spray cans. This way you are not stuck with an off the shelf color.

Rustoleum makes some textured paint, thats really strong and very durable. I painted my drive bay covers and buttons and such in a gray textured paint, it makes it a little more interesting to look at. Regular spray paint can scratch it lightly with your finger nail, most of my case is metalic black, i gotta be very careful with it, im scared to open and close too much, i got a small scratch on the top just setting a simple compu-nurse (small LCD temp monitor) which is just plastic with all round edges. It piled with 8 coats of metalic black paint and 4 coats of clear coat, i lightly sanded the clear coat down some too give it a duller shine.

check virtualhideout.net i saw quite a few cases using textured paint, i mean i throw by drive bays around all over the place and they don't have a knick on em. Hammered paint is another on ya might wanna look at, its an industral finish mixed with epoxy.

An old case pic
Pic with grill (eventully went without it)
Close up pic of the metalic paint
It looks alot more interesting with the drives in and all, i've done a couple more mods since then.

If you do the oven cure, make sure your relationship with the wife is on solid ground. PHEW! The other option is to have a good ionizing air filter.

Ya its real tough, very easy to paint with, you don't even have to prime your surfaces or anything cause it takes on its own a new texture. It goes on thick and covers well, its fool proof paint so easy to work with. If i had to do my case again i would probably would have done it in all textured paint.
The paint comes out like like the paint surface of a sony wega TV, or a sunon fan, or a MS natrual pro KB, Sony F500 monitor...hehe just pointing to things around me with textured paint :)

The rustoleum Hammered paint comes out REAL nice on a case, just make sure you give it ample time to dry, thats where i made my mistake on the front of my case. Now im gonna have to paint that over.
