I need to extend my signal on my router. It is not going as far as I need. The place where I need it has an Ethernet port in the room but I would need to be able to wire from the piece of equipment that I decide to use there. It would probably best be a router unless an access point can have ports to hook up to additional equipment in the room that I already use. I know it is best to stay with the same brand and my router is NETGEAR DGN3500. Can anyone tell me what they would use? Thanks.

I'm a big fan of Unifi, they are fairly cheap and have good range. I have just one for my whole house, but they can be setup for as big of an area as you want, just keep adding more. You do need to setup a VM to act as the management server if you do more than a single standalone AP though.

I used a cheap refurb D-Link DIR-601 that flashed with Gargoyle firmware easily to become a repeater. Works pretty nicely. I've not played with WDS yet though because it cuts bandwidth in half, though it might be an option.
