what do you recommend for a good pc game that's quick to learn?

I am new to PC games...So far I have a copy of X-Wing, F-18 Superhornet, and Earth 2150. I dont have the time right now (it seems) to adequately learn these games to enjoy them. I have Motoracer 2 also, and its the kind of game I have time to learn and enjoy. I dont know if its just me, but these games seem like they really take some time and energy to learn. OK OK I admit it, I'm just stupid. So what games would you recommend so I can check my new joystick out with, that are quick to learn for a stupid guy?

Maybe you should try one of those FPS (First Person Shooter) games like Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, etc...

You don't really need to learn those games, just need to walk around and shoot people/things into pieces!

Of course if you want to get really good in these games there are a lot to learn... But for starters learning should be minimal...

ok...i have been thinking about quake 3, except that I dont have the fastest video card. Its an ATI AIW 128 16MB AGP...are they still good games for a slower card like this?

Unreal tournament
Halflife
Deus Ex(I know you have to learn a bit but the tutorial is great and it's an awesome game)
Warcraft2 BNE
Starcraft Brood war
Diablo2(just hack and slash not too hard if you ask me)

Quake3 might be playable at 640x480x16 but it realy depends on the speed of your cpu.

Oh yea Unreal tournament is better than quake 3 imho

yep diablo is an easy game to learn.

UT and Quake is okay too. just shoot like BCYL said but it's gonna frustrate you tons when you get fragged every 5 seconds.

The Sims is also pretty intuitive.

Serious Sam Test 2 with multiplayer support was released last night -- perfect time to join the fray while everybody's relatively new to the game. Download a copy from the sitelist here. And a little something about Serious Sam from the Serious Sam website...

"Serious Sam is a high-adrenaline arcade-action shooter heavily focused on frantic arcade-style single player action. In a world where cyberpunk meets fantasy-fiction and advanced technology is mixed with black magic and psycho-powers, Sam travels through the beautiful world of ancient Egypt and several diverse planets, confronting countless Mental's minions on his way to the Mental's base."

Strategy: Point gun frontwards. Pull trigger. Repeat as necessary. I love it! 😉

i also second the suggestions of quake3arena and unreal tournament. but you could also try something like tony hawk 2. it's fairly simple and easy to get into and have fun, but there is still plenty of challenge left to master the big trick combos once you get the hang of he basic gameplay.

go for a racing game, like need for speed: Porche unleashed, all you have to learn is how to steer 🙂

excelent graphics and game play (esp. the evolution mode).
